Pengamen = Singing Beggar ?

This is stupid. The word "pengamen" in Indonesian refers to a person
who sings on the streets, buses and other public places to earn some
money. Sadly, when I looked the word up in sederet.com, an Indonesian
online dictionary, it was translated into "singing beggar". They are
not beggars. They make a living out of entertaining people on the
streets. I guess the right translation is "busker".

Talk about "pengamen"s, here is a couple of Japanese guys whom I often
meet at Shibuya Station, Tokyo, entertaining people. A Japanese
"Pengamen", if I may say so. But they're not doing in for cash. They
are selling their CD's. So those who enjoys their performance, can
also buy their CD's. If only Indonesian pengamen does this. I for sure
knows a lot of them in Jakarta who has a remarkable talent and I would
gladly buy their CD's.

Gamelan Class in Japan

Went to do a story on Balinese gamelan class in Otokoba-Omori, Japan.
The instructor is a young Balinese man by the name of Putu. He told me
how there has been an increase in numbers of people in Japan
interested in learning gamelan. He said if young people in Indonesia
(Bali in particular) are no longer interested in gamelan, who knows
someday we would have to come to Japan to learn the gamelan.
